Final Chapter- Bringing Baby Home!
I stayed in the hospital for... 3 days I think. For some reason they didn't count that first night, because by the time we got to our room and everything calmed down etc. it was about 4am I think. Tiny baby girl slept on my chest that night until they came to take her and check her blood sugar etc. at around 7-8am. She was tiny. And all tummy! Even though she arrived at just under 5 lbs, she was healthy and strong. She did not need to be kept in the incubator or anything!
I got to have my bed changed and cathater out and new gown etc early the next morning! And some fancy mesh undies that I was horrified about at first- but were actually quite comfortable. I remember I could NOT stand that first time, I was soooo tired, sore and hopped up on meds! I had to hold onto my IV pole and be held up by a nice nurse. They said that was normal though. We had lots of visitors and flowers and other gifts sent from loving people! Thank You again to everyone! At one point, the first day, a nurse came in and we had been passing that tiny girl around, and she asked if she had had any dirty diapers yet- we had completely forgotten to check! New parent mistake I will chalk that up to! But we were on top of it from there on in! I got to take a shower the day after that- but Sebastian had to hold me up the whole time. The pain meds that they had me on made me SOOO sleepy! I would sometimes drop off in the middle of talking to someone! I was afraid to hold the baby when I was alone because I didnt' want to drop her or anything! The day we were ready to leave the hopsital- October 11th in the evening- Sebastian brought to my attention ( as we were filling out the birth certificate) that he did not particularly like the name Oaklyn. Which was the name I had picked out, and was written on her little baby caddy- and anytime I had asked him about it- he had said," Piiiiiiidy!". Sooooo- we had to go ahead and pick her name! I gave Sebastian a couple of different choices. I gave him Isabella, Everlyn, Everly, aaaand. Oneother one that we obviously didn't pick so it doesnt matter much now! Sebastian and I talked about it and we ended up with Everly! Everly June! And she was just a hair over 5lbs when they let us leave the hospital! I remember most about the hospital is...
Starting the fun adventure of breast feeding. This tiny girl would fall asleep pretty much no matter what, every time I would try. Soooooo I ended up pumping almost always even from the very beginning. And maaaan alive, that hospital bed made my butt HURT! I was so glad when we got to go home- even though people kept telling me to stay as long as I could!- because I wanted my bed back! I remember the hospital had REALLY good oatmeal! LOL! And I remember thinking that it was really strange that the medicine they had me on while I was there made me THAT sleepy. I almost passed out during the class about post partum depression- and asked the nurse if that was normal and she said yes it was.
Laura had been staying with us about 4 weeks or so waiting for the baby to arrive! Having her help was soooo nice and when she left about a day later, I was so upset I cried.
I hurt a lot. I only had... I think 3 days of pain meds after I left the hopsital. They let me have another 2 days worth, but then had me only on some lower dose ones that did NOT work as well for sure!
And we went on from there with our tiny little Everly! We would stare and stare at her and could NOT believe that she was real, and was finally here!
